You are right, Earl. Unfortunately this particular book has only come out traditionally printed, so changing the title is not an option until all 1000 copies are sold. And to be honest, I am not expecting to have another print run of this book, so I am stuck with the title.
Any how, it is still selling, although maybe not as fast as it might have done with a better title.

Sometimes a bad title can be salvaged by adding a few words below the title or at the bottom of the cover page. For example, From Dissenters to Fire Engines add a line below the title The Hidden Churches of York. This can be done easily with an ebook because it is easy to change the book cover. Less easy with a POD book, because the POD publisher will charge for a change, but not impossible. Even less easy for large print runs because you are stuck with the original cover until all of the print run is sold out.

Progress is unstoppable, so why not move with it. ;)

But just to let you know, all my books have come out as paperback now. Including 'More Stories', although that one is only for sale on Amazon.com.

You're right, Eliza. It did start out as a hobby, but I would definitely call it work now. :)

Books are indeed very expensive. Especially the 'paper' books. Unfortunately ebooks are often expensive too, even though they should be much cheaper. But I do think that ebooks will become cheaper, once people are getting more used to them.

wow maria, seems like work! ;) thought it started as a hobby, which became more and more seriously. I'm curious for the result! Now I understand why books are so expensive! Take care.

Thanks, Eliza!
I do indeed think that someone must have bought it before they uploaded it. Unfortunately neither Amazon, nor Smashwords let us know who the buyers are.
Someone on a writers forum actually found the server that the illegal site is run from, but that doesn't say much either. My site is hosted by an American host.
In any case, I am still brooding on my reply to them. :)
