Frequently Asked Questions
TIME ZONES, CONTAINERS AND THREE SQUARE MEALS A DAY
Why did you write this book?
Already during my trips on the container ships, I was sure I was going to write a book about my adventures, as they were such unique experiences. On the ships I kept a very detailed journal of everything that happened on board. These journals were lifesavers when I finally started writing the book more than six years after the trips had happened.
How long did it take to write the book?
I started writing this book in May 2009 and soon found I couldn’t stop. I finished the book in six months time. It was eventually publishing in October 2010.
Did the crew-member really go crazy?
Yes, he did. At the time it was a rather frightening experience and I really believe we were lucky that he wasn’t violently crazy. I don’t know what would have happened if he had been violent. Once the guy had been locked up in a cabin, things went more or less back to normal. We then also knew he was just confused, so it wasn’t scary anymore, like in the beginning.
Looking back I must really say that this whole ‘guy-going-crazy’ thing is one of the weirdest things that have ever happened to me on my travels.
What was the best thing that happened on board the ships?
There were so many great things that happened, but what I really loved was seeing the dolphins jumping and playing around the ship. That was so much fun to watch. Thinking of those dolphins is definitely one of my happy thoughts.
