Post-War Architecture
Post-war architecture in the Netherlands is the name given to buildings that were built between 1940-1960 in a certain architectural style. Many people find buildings in this style ugly or boring, because they are built of concrete or bricks, mostly with functionality and practicality in mind.
Built in a time when building materials were scarce and standards not as high as they are today, many post-war buildings are now on lists to be demolished. Many have already gone.
Having fallen in love with post-war architecture, I am currently doing an inventory of all the post-war buildings in my hometown. The idea is to write a book about these buildings, hoping that people will learn to appreciate their uniqueness.
